June 21, 2013 - Since today is the first official day of summer, I decided to make a cake to commemorate the day. So far, our summer vacation has been wonderful.
I named this cake My Blue Hawaii Cake. It is a blue almond cake with chocolate icing.
We have been to the Carnegie Science Center twice, Phipps Conservatory, we saw Man of Steel at the theatre, we have been out to lunch, and we have had a bunch of picnics. We have been to the beach, the pool a bunch of times, we have been fishing three times and the boys even caught about 20 little Bluegill fish (which we threw back). We have hiked through the woods and slid down rocks into waterfalls. We have found disgusting bugs under rocks and some pretty cool salamanders, too. Yesterday the boys swam in a huge creek and threw rocks in the water. We stopped to get ice cream on our drive home.
We have been to baseball games and played board games together and the boys have already read lots and lots of books (they are avid readers). We have been to the park and on walks and to the beach and on bike rides. The boys found “treasures” in our woods, and by this I mean old amber colored glass Austin and Clorox bleach bottles. We have been sleeping late and staying up later than normal. The boys composed music about a sea monster, made a collage about a sea monster, and wrote a poem about a sea monster.
Summer has been great. Now we are eating cake to commemorate summer. We are looking forward to Cedar Point and Hilton Head!
